According to Wikipedia, 'The Minitel was a videotex online service accessible through telephone lines and was the world's most successful online service prior to the World Wide Web. It was invented in Cesson-Sévigné, near Rennes in Brittany, France'. Considered both a technological and cultural marvel, the Minitel was often dubbed the "French Internet." This government-operated French computer service found its way into a million French households by the mid-80s. Some even speculate that this "Little French Box" may have been a source of inspiration for Steve Jobs when creating the first Macintosh computer!
